Hello Toni,
Very nice forum, I wish you all the best for the future!
Generally speaking, could you please tell me how is the breeding of Phasmid in Australia.
I mean, is there many breeders or are sticks not very liked as they might be pest in certain areas?
You get your species from other breeder or do you go by yourself to caught phasmid?
I am quite curious :-)
I think it is a dream for us (European breeders) to be able to collect phasmid in the wild.
Thanks & best wishes, Nico (Switzerland) nico.voegeli@gmx.ch

yes, there is a few breeders in Australia. But i dont think phasmids are all that popular as they are in the UK or other parts of the world. Why? maybe because they are a native insect and we take them for granted? I dont know.
Remembering that only the top of Australia is tropical, that is where Extatosoma Tiaratum come from, i dont live in that part of Australia. I live in a more drier part, so i get my phasmids posted to me. I have no doubt that they would be able to colect from the wild, but they would probably breed them anyway
I am still searching for those sticks that i used to remember as a kid in my backyard. That was a long time ago though.
Most species of the Phasmids usually occur in low numbers, but some species have occurred in plagues and in such instances seriously defoliate trees as resulted. I havent heard of such a thing happening for a very long time.
The plan for the site is to get as many different OZ sticks as i can find and record as much information about them as i can.

I must also add, we have very strict quarantine laws in Australia. So please dont ask for shipping of any eggs.
